Syncopated x Accordion Wines - another collaboration thanks to The Libi Project's industry nights! Malou and I connected at the end of January, and I was very intrigued by her and all her wines right from the start. I loved the name of the company and how it had a musical flair just like Syncopated, the labels on all the bottles were so vibrant and captivating that I could not wait to taste what was inside, and the winery is upstate, which is one of my favorite places since I went to school in both Hyde Park and Ithaca! Accordion Wines is a very petite winery crafting natural wines in Accord, NY, a small town nestled in the Hudson Valley. Malou only started out in 2021, sourcing grapes from the Finger Lakes and Long Island that are of lesser-known hybrid varieties especially well-suited to the local climate, offering sustainability and resistance. She harvests all the grapes by hand and aims to be as gentle in the winery as possible; no harsh chemicals or invasive techniques here, she simply ferments them with indigenous yeasts, letting them do what they do best. Malou herself only works with a small press, an even smaller pump, and a lot of time – and it leads to some magnificent results! Every wine I tried was so refreshing and layered, and each one truly danced on my palate with their fruity nuances, striking colors, balanced acidity, and irresistible craveability. I knew a wine pairing dinner was in our future! Since Accordion currently has five wines available, the menu for this evening will feature five courses - one to go with each bottle. And because Malou is from the south of France, I figured an homage to the cuisine of this region was the most fitting! Having traveled through Provence for two weeks in the summer of 2023, I was fortunate enough to experience some of the legendary ingredients and classic combinations myself - and I could not be more thrilled to put my own spin on them now. And who knows, maybe some of these wines that are bursting with so much flavor will make an appearance in the food too?!
